Types of IVF: Knowing Your Options

In Vitro Fertilization has given hope to scores of childless couples. While most people know the general process of IVF, there are many different types of IVF treatments. Each of these has been specially devised to suit the needs of the different people in question. Which type one is adopted depends on the causes of infertility, age, or medical history.

1. Conventional IVF Traditional IVF is the most well-known form of IVF. A woman is treated with medications to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Those eggs are then matured, retrieved, and fertilized in vitro with sperm, and then placed into the uterus. Best for: When dealing with unexplained infertility issues, blocked fallopian tubes, or male infertility issues, couples have the best shot with it

2. Mini IVF (Minimal Stimulation IVF)

Mini IVF involves less intensity than conventional IVF with fewer drugs for fertility. The aim is to get fewer eggs but of the best quality. It reduces the risk of OHSS and has fewer side effects.

Best for: Good ovarian reserve women who will opt for a gentle approach.

3. Natural Cycle IVF

No fertility drugs are utilized for Natural Cycle IVF. Instead, this method uses the single egg a woman naturally produces every month. It is totally natural and free of possible side effects as a result of medication.

Best for: Women who either cannot or choose not to take fertility drugs.

4. ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

ICSI is a specialized technique used in IVF to overcome severe male infertility. In this procedure, a single sperm is directly injected into the egg to ensure fertilization, which helps a lot when the sperm quality is very poor or when previous fertilizations have failed.

5. Donor Egg IVF

In the cases of women who cannot produce viable eggs due to either their age or some underlying medical condition, donor eggs may be utilized. These are then fertilized with the partner’s sperm and implanted in the woman’s uterus.

Best for: Poor ovarian reserve, women of advanced age, and genetic conditions.
