FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a process of fertilisation where an egg is combined with sperm in vitro (“in glass”). The process involves monitoring and stimulating a female’s ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova (egg or eggs) from their ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in a culture medium in a laboratory. After the fertilised egg (zygote) undergoes embryo culture for 2–6 days, it is transferred by catheter into the uterus, with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.
Infertility is the inability to conceive a child. It can be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, age, stress, and medical conditions.
If you’re having trouble getting pregnant, we can help. The first step is to schedule an appointment with a primary care physician or general gynecologist who can give you advice on how to get pregnant and refer you to a fertility doctor if necessary.
It varies from person to person. If you are not ovulating regularly or have other issues preventing pregnancy, it may take up to six months before we can help you conceive. On the other hand, if your problem is easily resolved (e.g. irregular periods), we may be able to help in just a few weeks!
According to World Health Organization estimate, the overall prevalence of primary infertility in India is between 3.9 to 16.8%. In Indian states, prevalence of infertility varies from state to state such as 3.7% in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra, to 5% in Andhra Pradesh, and 15% in Kashmir and prevalence varies in same region across tribes and caste.
Infertility can be caused by a problem with the male or female reproductive systems, or it can be caused by a problem in the couple’s relationship. The most common cause of infertility is ovulation disorders, but there are also many other causes. Infertility isn’t always preventable and can affect anyone at any age.
